The Heart of Hollywood

Nothing symbolizes Hollywood more than the Chinese Theater, former home of the Academy Awards, located on Hollywood Blvd. just a few doors west of Oscar’s characterless new abode, the Kodak Theater. The Chinese isn’t the last bastion of old-time glamor, however; diagonally across the boulevard is the less overtly showy El Capitan theater, which is currently the premiere screen for first-run Disney films. And just a few blocks east of that is the Egyptian, now a first-rate revival house. In the nonstop mob scene of freaks, tourists and panhandlers – not to mention the downward distraction of the Walk of Fame and the footprints of the stars – it’s easy not to notice just how beautiful the Chinese Theater still is. Thank you, Raymond Kennedy.
