Venetian Fever Dream

Recently, I fulfilled a promise I made to myself when I was 14 to return to an old house I saw in Venice, Italy, when I was there on a family vacation.  I never stopped dreaming of that house or the tranquil canal it overlooked.  Finally, decades later, as a weary adult, I honored my boyhood self by spending some solo quality time wandering the calles and canals of Venice, trying to figure out the strange, dark, shuttered labyrinth of a city.  Along the way, I caught the influenza fever that was going around, which turned my journey into a living fever dream.  The house took care of me.  I hope these photos convey the magic and intensity of this fantastic, haunted place.  More images will materialize, so feel free to return as often as you like.

  1. Wonderful sense of composition, lighting, subject matter. There is nothing “casual” in these photos which appear to be the result of mental focus, attention and the mind and vision of a true artist.

  2. Charles….light is your friend and you know him well. You two get along splendidly. I can imagine your joy on your return visit. I to had a Venetian experience in my teens that lives till today. Thanks for the wonderful flashbacks and visit down memory canal.

  3. I think I understand all of your tags except for one. Perche’ La Gioconda with this set of photos? What reference to the painting am I missing?
